I’ve had a great weekend with friends, a party with lots of happy people, some Fringe stuff, a flying monkey and for tonight’s finale a meal and Paprika Balkanicus. Life is good – thank you everyone!

Song of the day #6
Jonathan Coulton – Code Monkey
There are loads of music videos for this song as Jonathan Coulton had a competition for his listeners/fans to make their own ones. The Warcraft based one is pretty sweet but I just like the effort that this guy has gone to with the lip syncing. (If you like the second video then you should probably check out the clip of the Simpsons in World of Warcraft – the ending is a bit weird but I love the idea of Grog Lite – not enough bars sell Grog Lite).

The Killers – Everything Will Be Alright
I love the “no copyright infringement intended” comment after almost 6 minutes of stealing clips from the Harry Potter films! This is such a great song in a slightly shivery kind of way.
On a Harry Potter note… having finished the last book (and been happy that the story has been all wrapped up and that the last two films will probably kick ass) I am glad to hear that JK (not Jay Kay) has promised more from the land of wizards. She mentioned in an interview that there will be at least one more book with short stories and backgrounds to characters and wizarding families. More information here.
Invisible art in Edinburgh

The AI department at Edinburgh University and the Edinburgh College of Art have a combined project involving mobile phones, image recognition, an element of gaming/geocaching and some pretty cool looking invisible graffiti. The project website tells of a project that sounds like lots of fun in the way that they are mixing it all together and I feel is really motivated by a deep down want to graffiti on a big scale!

In a similar way the Murmur project brings gives an audio tour of Leith either online or at these locations. When you follow the map you will find a green ear sign attached to the lamppost with a local phone number – call it up to hear a location specific historical fact. Both projects are adding something extra to Edinburgh without being invasive; making great use of existing mobile phones features without needing them to do loads of processing. I think that the idea of Murmur could be put to great use across the wider city as a kind of giant tour guide that would be able to give a personalised tour of the city without time or route constrains.
